General Assembler

Pensacola, FL, On-Site, Full Time

Position Summary

Bergan Marine Systems is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented General Assembler to join our production team.

In this entry-level role, you will assemble parts and subassemblies that go into our marine and barge systems, including components for the SmartBarge® Loading System and CMS+ Cargo Management System. Working from blueprints and assembly instructions under the direction of a supervisor, you will help build reliable, high-quality products that meet Bergan’s standards.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn the marine manufacturing trade and grow with an established company. No prior experience is required — we provide on-the-job training. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Reviews assembly instructions, blueprints, drawings, and parts lists to plan work and gather the parts, subassemblies, tools, and materials needed for each job.
  • Positions and aligns parts and subassemblies using templates, fixtures, and measuring instruments to meet drawing specifications.
  • Assembles mechanical and structural components by fitting, fastening, bolting, and securing parts and subassemblies for marine and barge systems.
  • Verifies finished work by measuring and inspecting completed components against specifications and tolerances.
  • Identifies assembly problems, makes corrective adjustments within established tolerances, and notifies the supervisor when additional resources or guidance are needed.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, follows manufacturer instructions, and reports malfunctions for repair.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work area in compliance with company procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Monitors parts and supplies inventory, anticipates needs, and assists in ordering and verifying receipt of materials.
  • Uses equipment, materials, and resources efficiently to control waste and meet production goals.
  • Documents work by completing production, quality, and inspection records accurately and on time.
  • Supports the team by completing related tasks and assisting other assemblers as needed.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Preferred Experience

  • Prior manufacturing, fabrication, marine, or shipyard experience is a plus but not required — this is an entry-level position.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints, assembly drawings, and parts lists (training provided).
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and basic measuring instruments such as tape measures, calipers, and squares.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively within a team.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently stands, walks, bends, kneels, and reaches throughout the shift.
  • Regularly lifts and carries up to 50 lbs.; occasionally moves heavier items with assistance or lifting equipment.
  • Performs repetitive hand and arm motions while handling tools and components.
  • Works in an industrial shop and marine environment that may include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and variable temperatures.
  • Uses required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toe footwear.
